Cufflinks are considered as stylish and valuable accessories in men’s fashion, which express the wearer’s personality. Over the years models of cufflinks have transformed a lot, but there are some common models which are to be known before planning to purchase them.
Men’s accessories such as cuff links are simple, practical and stylish to wear as they emphasize your personality. Further, they help to make any type of long shirt look extraordinary without much effort. Whatever you wear these stylish accessories make them appear sophisticated and radiate the wearer’s personality in a soft way. Hence without the right pair of cufflinks, the appearance of a man is almost incomplete. In earlier days to fasten shirt sleeves, cuff strings and buttons with small chains were mostly used, but gradually new styles of cufflinks became fashionable and many trendy models came into fashion industry. Below are some most common types of models in cuff link designs that every fashion enthusiast must know before choosing the right one for their favorite shirt.
Cuffs with toggle and bullet back closures
These types of cuffs are the most popular ones and are easy to put on due to their shape. At the back you can see a bullet backing that swivels between two posts and if you move it vertically in 90 degrees angle it lines up with the two posts. Then it becomes easy to insert into the shirt’s button holes. To secure the cuffs in a place you can then flip the bullet backing in horizontal position.
Cuffs with whale back closures
This style is almost similar to the bullet back style except that you can see a straight post with a hook-shaped like a whale tail attached to its end. The whale tail closure is designed to flip flat through 180 degree angle against the straight post for placing in the button holes of the shirt. To secure the cuffs at a place you can then flip these tails in horizontal position.
Cuffs with fixed backing
As the name indicates this style has fixed back and is nothing but just an extension of the cuff link. The post and back is one piece and are attached to the back of cuff’s face. Backing is immovable and depending on its shape, i.e., either pointed or round, it can be a bit difficult to insert in the button hole. Due to no moving parts in this type, it is tough to use but is long-lasting. However, the reversible variety is also available for those who want flexibility in fixed backing cuff models. They allow you to switch the cuffs on any side, as the design is featured on both sides.
Cuffs with chain link
This style is unique and features design on two sides that are connected with a chain link instead of solid post as in other styles. For using this type of cuffs additional dexterity is needed but they are still popular due to the attractive loose chain links that give flexibility. There are also reversible varieties in this model, which are similar to the fixed backing cuffs model with reversible feature.
